Where to find specialty coffee in Helsinki pt.I

Helsinki is not my favourite destination but it’s the quickest and the most convenient way for citizens of StP to take part in a well organised running race; it’s the quickest and the most entertaining way to get your stamps for Finnish visa; you can find pleasures everywhere. First time in Helsinki both me and my husband had no idea what to do there, next time we’ve found Johan och Nyström, and a few trips later lots of specialty coffee spots appeared on our map. Do not make our mistakes, stay away from numerous Robert’s Coffees (Robert was Paulig’s name, this means there’s nothing interesting unless you are a fan of McDonald’s coffee), buy a Starbucks mug for your collection and go find a damn fine cup of coffee using this guide. 500 m from railway station Artisan Café /Vuorikatu 8, 00100 Helsinki, Finland/ on map Although Artisan Café is just 500m…

Carrot cake with chocolate soil and marzipan carrots

I’ve never been a carrot cake fan. Seriously, I’ve been wondering why do people eat this boring cake that needs a ton of cream to slide down the throat. So, it’s not surprising that the last one I tried was years ago at Starbucks (and that one was not that bad because it has an impressive amount of lubricant). Years later, on a dark cold winter morning I was drinking my coffee and looking for some challenging cake recipe with a delicious and comforting result. CHARD

Have you ever tried to grow your own chard? I’ve met a pack of seeds in a store and decided to give it a try in spite of all the warnings about it’s capricious nature. It turned out that my balcony was a perfect place for this plant, and it was so so beautiful right from the beginning and to the end, from the first tiny leaf to these delicious toasts. Yep, I spent a lot of time taking pics of different stages of it’s growth and even sowd the second batch.

And that would be me!

I could possibly find better picture for my first ever blog post. Y’know, with lash extensions, cleaner hair, more romantic and thoughtful expression on my face. But I’m in love with this one taken in Ritual Coffee Roasters in Haight-Ashbury, San Francisco, CA. Because this is truth. This is me. Wearing no makeup, tired, suffering from blisters on my feet after hours of walking in Mission and Castro and Haight-Ashbury in a not so comfortable pair of Reebok Classics, and what’s most important – with stupid happy smile on my face. Same truth I want to achieve in my blog. No special and artificial looks and outfits, no unrepeatable recipes and impossible advices. Well, HI! I’m Irene, a funny mix of a happy wife, obsessed traveller, foodaholic with nutrition specialist and personal trainer diploma, snail pace marathon runner and so on. Welcome!
